September is a BIG birthday month in our family, not only in our home but for our extended family as well. I love birthday’s because it is a really great excuse to have CAKE! I made this cake for my mom in January, and when Grey and I ate a piece, our eyes rolled back in our head. It is so darn good, hence the name. If you like chocolate cake you will love this recipe. It came from a cook book my Grandma Moutray gave me called “The Cake Mix Doctor” by Anne Byrn. It’s a good one to have on the shelf.
Curry Chicken with rice
Curry dishes are one of my favorite things to eat for lunch or dinner. Ryan and I found a Thai restaurant in our town that I loved so much. All ingredients were so fresh and the curry was so delicious. Due to Covid and a long span of road construction in front of this restaurant it was closed down. I am still so sad about this. I came to the conclusion that I had to learn how to make my own curry dish. This is my attempt at curry with white rice. As I make it more in the future I will update this recipe based on my likes. Know that whatever recipe you see on this site it is the updated version. There is something special about a curry sauce combined with veggies and rice that makes my mouth so happy. Curry is also eaten with naan bread, or other types of bread. My favorite is white rice.
Crockpot Potatoes & Sausage Casserole
Crock Pot Potato & Sausage Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish cooked slowly in a crockpot. Potatoes, sausage, and other ingredients are layered and cooked together. Potatoes are typically sliced or diced, providing a starchy base for the casserole. Sausage, usually sliced or crumbled, adds savory flavor and protein. Other common ingredients include onions, garlic, bell peppers, and cheese. Seasonings such as salt, pepper, and herbs are often added for extra flavor. Everything is layered in the crockpot and cooked low and slow, allowing the flavors to meld together and the potatoes to become tender. Chocolate Zucchini Cake
This recipe comes from my mother. My family has had quite a battle with sugar the past 10 years. My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer 18 years ago and 3 of my sisters and I have Candida (too much yeast in our bodies). With all that we had one thing in common we could not eat sugar. If you know my family this was not a fun thing to hear. We LOVE sugar. We decided to find and figure out sugar free treats that we could eat. This is one of our favorites. I love to make this at the end of summer and into the fall because it is another way to use all the zucchini’s that over flow from my garden.

Chicken Wings
I follow a guy on TikTok that is an awesome cook. I have learned a ton from watching his videos. I have tried a few things that have been problematic for me previously. I have made chicken wings several times and they are hard to get wrong. One Superbowl party I made some Parmesan Garlic wings and barely got to have one myself because they were gone so quickly. The thing I have noticed though is that my wings didn’t have a crispy outer shell like I like, and this TikToker showed me how to make it happen. Follow him @thatdudecancook on TikTok.
Chicken Thighs
I tend to cook my best when I just throw stuff into a pot and see what happens. Sometimes, unfortunately, it results in something bland or outright terrible. However, even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes and this one was a winner. Thighs are very flavorful anyway and hard to make taste bad, but this combination of savory/ spicy dry rub, smoked thighs and then Mike's Hot Honey glaze was a huge hit and a great win at the dinner table. We all loved it!
Chicken Pot Pie
We love chicken pot pie in our home. It is perfect for those cold evening meals, but the funny thing is, we seem to make it in July more than those colder nights due to our daughter. Hopefully your family loves it as much as ours.

Chicago Dogs
This is a fun way to dress up a hot dog for dinner. When my kids were little we made these a couple times. It's been a minute but we had fun eating them again recently. I like to have ingredient in separate bowls so my kids can choose what they want on their hot dog. This time we cut the onion and tomato in big chunks and honestly it made it difficult to eat. Dice those two ingredients and it will be perfect.
Cheese Burger Sliders
I have to admit when I saw a slider for the first time, I thought; “who on earth would want a really small hamburger? Maybe they are for kids.” By now, though, you have probably realized that sliders can be incredibly delicious bite- sized yumminess. I found the recipe for these on www.readyseteat.com and gave them my own twist: a thumbs up from our youngest (Grey) or, other than the sounds of eating, all that is heard is utter silence which means mouths are full. These sliders got full marks; the whole family loved this meal. It took some prep to make but it was worth it.

Second of all, the cousin “peer pressure” is real. If one get one everyone else will want one, ha ha ha. She made a killing. She honestly did a great job. Leftover Turkey Pot Pie
One of my favorite things at Thanksgiving time are the left overs. The turkey, cranberries, stuffing and rolls. My mom always used all the leftovers for meals we ate while the family was still together. We’ve had soups, sandwiches, and all sorts of different meals. A few years ago, Ryan and I went to a sandwich shop in Las Vegas called Capriotti’s. They have a sandwich called the Bobbie. It is my favorite sandwich in all the world. It is turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce on a bun and it is amazing. They call it thanksgiving on a bun. They have one in Logan if you want to try. We decided to try that idea with a pot pie, and its delicious!
Kitchen Sink Cookies
When I saw these I had to try them. This recipe was found all over Pinterest. Some called it Kitchen sink cookies, or pretzel cookies, or rockstar cookies. Whatever you call them, know that they are super yummy and a must try. To be honest if felt a little weird putting potato chips in my cookies. After trying them I learned that those different combinations created a good balance of salty and sweet and soft and crunchy. My children loved them. I loved the toffee in the cookies as well. Great recipe. Hope your family enjoys them as much as ours did.

Homemade Pizza and Side Salad
This is a tried and true pizza dough recipe. We found it online at 101cookbooks.com. The key to this recipe is to make it 2-3 days before and let it rise slowly in the fridge so it slightly ferments just enough to make it taste just right. Letting it sit for this long also makes the crust just slightly chewy. The recipe is super simple. We recently had a backyard pizza bake and cooked our pizza’s in our neighbors outdoor brick oven. There is nothing quite like pizza that comes out of a real brick oven!!! The BEST EVER!! 3 days before baking day make your dough. (You can make dough the same day but it doesn’t taste as good or have the same consistency. Still yummy just not quite perfect)
Homemade Granola
I got a granola recipe from my best friend's mom growing up in Honeyville. I changed a few things and this recipe is what we make each year. This is one of my favorite recipes to make in the fall & winter months when it is chilly outside. Not only does it taste so good. It makes my house smell AWESOME (NO candles needed) and it's good for you. I always double this recipe because it goes so fast. Yummy.
Homemade Doughnuts
When Cheryl was a little girl her mom made donuts on Halloween and she loved it. When she became a mom she wanted to carry that tradition on for her family. Her children have grown up but they still come to grandma’s and help make donuts for the neighborhood. They make 200 to 300 donuts every year. When we heard about this a few years back we had to try them for ourselves. Seriously so delicious!!! by Cheryl Humphreys
